How to align social media with your values with

Social Media can be a very inspiring and also uplifting space. It depends on you decide to make of it.

Perhaps you find social media to be superficial or have a skeptical view of these platforms. Not everyone has good intentions when they hang out on the social networks. There are people who create fake accounts, insult other people, you are judged and we are reduced to our appearance.

But it doesn’t have to be like that. Social media can be an inspiring place where you can meet like-minded people and find valuable tips. But only if you do it right.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if you could create a place that made people feel better? Inspire them, motivate them and make them feel seen and heard?

Knowing our own values is extremely important in life. And it is also important that we align these values with everything we do. So what are your values?

I would like to give you some ideas on how you can express your values on social media, so that you can find those platforms as inspiring and wonderful as I do.

How to align social media with your values:

Define your intentions

Before you post pictures or stories ask yourself «What do I want to achieve with this?» Remember your mission. What do you want to bring about change in people’s lives? If you have a clear intention for your whole internet presence, then you know exactly why you are doing what you are doing. You know what you want to change with your content.

Be your authentic self

It’s so important that we stay true to ourselves. Especially on social media! It is so easy to start comparing and trying to be someone we are not, just because we see someone else having success with what they are doing. But I want to encourage you to stay true to yourself! What you have to offer is unique and that uniqueness will inspire others to be themselves as well. Be open, honest and show your vulnerable side. Show yourself as you really are. Be an inspiration for others to live their authentic self.

Share what you care about

What is most important to you in life? It is important that we share what YOU care about, not what everyone else does. Ask yourself what you do every day or what you often think about and share these things. Show the people what you care about and inspire your audience. If you share what is important to you, people will see it at first sight when they come across your account and that will attract the right people.

Think of the individual person

In the social media, we quickly think in crowds. However, I would like to ask you to focus on the individual. Always think about your ideal dream client and what you would like to tell him/her in real life. What is your message? If you write your texts to a single person instead of the broad masses, it will feel much more personal to the reader.

Share your knowledge

You have so much valuable information and experience to share. You have the opportunity to encourage others and become an inspiration. Share your knowledge online and let people be a part on your mission. Whatever your gift to the world is, here you can share it and live according to your values.

Follow the right people

It is not only important what we share ourselves, but also who we follow. When you open the app you should be directly inspired and not get a bad feeling. That’s why I want to encourage you to unfollow all those who don’t bring you joy, inspiration or motivation. Remember, you should focus on your values and the people you follow should support these values. And if there are people where you say you can’t unfollow them because they are family members or work colleagues, just mute them. The other person won’t see that and they won’t be shown on your newsfeed anymore.

Set boundaries

Where do you want to invest your time? What is especially important to you? We all have the same number of hours a day at our disposal and it is important that we know what we want to focus on. Your online presence is of enormous value and should definitely not be neglected. But if you don’t enjoy it doing it yourself and prefer to focus on other things, then this is something you can outsource. Know your limits and stay in your zone of genius.

Social media does not have to be evil. For me the app is a place of inspiration and joy. And it can be the same for you. You can become an inspiration for others. By staying true to our values and actually living them, we motivate others to do the same. And if we go on the Internet with the best intentions, wonderful things can happen.
